John ( E. Hooker, son of W. C. Hooker was graduated on January 23, from the parent radio school of the Air forces Technical Training com Priand, and is now qualified for duty as a member of a fighting bomber crew, under direction of Major General Walter R. Miss Al len came from New York City to make her home in Tryon in 1939. She had formerly taught in the public schools of Geneva, N. Y., and Omaha, Nebraska; in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin State Nor mal school and served as princi pal of the Dunn county Norma) school, Menomonie, Wis. She is survived by one sister, Miss Edith Allen of Tryon. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 5:30 at the home. Friends please omit flowers. Bruce Metcalf, A Lieutenant Second Lieutenant John Bruce Metcalf, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Metcalf of Tryon, was graduated Thursday, January 28th, from the world’s largest bombardier train ing area, the West Texas Bomb ardier Triangle composed of Mid land, Big Spring and San Angelo. He has completed three months of training over target areas about the size of Nazi Germany. The class during its training made use of many new techniques and items of equipment developed during the last few months to in crease the accuracy of precision bombing. Much of the bombardiers’ prac tice bombing is now conducted from actual combat aircraft such as the sleek and speedy Vega Ventu ras, extensively used by the Brit ish in raids upon Nazi bases. “Synthetic” training devices of all kinds entered into the cadets’ deadly schooling.
